Harrogate Sports & Fitness Centre is a Members’ club and profits generated are reinvested into the club for continual development and improvement. Success for us means creating a fantastic facility for all the community to enjoy and benefit from, enabling members and guests to be active and enjoy sports and social activities. We receive no operational support and therefore all of our running costs and staff wages are funded through the services we provide.
There’s a really friendly atmosphere in the club and it’s a great place to sit and have a drink or a coffee after a workout in the gym or after a hard game of squash.
Our aim is to develop an inclusive, safe and exciting facility, which can be enjoyed by everyone, members and guests alike.
We want to help young people be the best they can be by providing activities and opportunities which increase their horizons. This is achievable with the mentoring and coaching from our experienced staff and the help from our partners and volunteers.
Your support will be vital to help us achieve our objectives and help HSFC grow over the coming years.
“I think that the recent changes that have been made have been a great boost to the gym and has given it a super upgrade. Staff (and others) have all worked very hard for the benefit of us all. Thanks you all.”

Joe Norcross
Sports and Fitness Manager
I’ve worked in the fitness industry for more than 13 years. Starting as a Fitness Instructor and teaching a variety of classes such as HIIT, Circuits, Spinning, Mobility, Yoga, Strength, and many more. I transitioned into Personal Training and Gym Management in 2015. In 2018, I took a break to travel before returning to the fitness industry in 2019 as HSFC’s gym manager. As a result of the rise of Padel and Rackets in recent years, I’ve taken on a larger position with the club, as well as more responsibilities. I still enjoy teaching classes and chatting with members while working with the team to make HSFC Amazing!
Ryan Boyes
I have been with HSFC for more than 6 years. I’ve taught a wide range of classes, managed the gym, and spent the last several years focusing more on my work as a Personal Trainer. I enjoy teaching BOXFIT and STRENGTH classes and having a natter with new and existing members.
James Blackburn
I’ve been in the fitness industry for six years and have participated in events like as Hyrox, Half Ironman, and a Marathon. Not only do I teach programmes like Bootcamp, Kettlebell, and Circuits, but I also Personal Train a wide range of gym members to help them lose weight, increase strength, and become more fit.
Izzy I’Ianson
I am a certified Personal Trainer, Zumba instructor, and dancer. I train one-on-one individuals and teach a range of classes from circuits to mobility and stretch classes. I’ve helped a variety of people reach their goals. This includes weight loss, muscle building, injury rehabilitation, and more. I am now eager to help clients improve their daily lives by strengthening their muscles and educate them on the benefits of exercise.
James Barnett
After serving in the Navy and leaving from my position as a Coca-Cola manufacturing team leader, I opted to retrain as a fitness instructor. I’ve always been fit and participated in many fitness activities over the years. In between my various holidays and adventures, I now enjoy instructing classes such as spinning, balancing, and tone!
Jack Hanson
I studied sports performance at the University of Bath while also playing tennis for the university and trained with the professional squad. I also received my level 3 personal training certification alongside my degree, which led me down the route of fitness coaching. When I first arrived at the club, I coached Padel Tennis and personal training to a diverse group of members, focusing on injury rehabilitation, fitness, and overall wellness. Along with being at HSFC, I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in physiotherapy at York St John University.
Kate Hogarth
After working in the legal industry and training myself for over a decade, I decided to pursue my passion to become a fitness instructor. Having faced the struggles of balancing a busy schedule with maintaining a fitness routine, I’m committed to supporting busy individuals in staying active. I teach a variety of fitness classes and my overall aim is to provide practical solutions for integrating enjoyable exercise into daily life.
Jamie
Hi! I’m Jamie, I have been running the bar & café here at HSFC for over 2 years now and absolutely love it. After working in hotels, restaurants and bars all my life, the club has given me the opportunity to put all of my experience to good use for all of its members, whilst giving me the opportunity for a more normal life away from big hospitality! Always happy to help!
Harry
Hi I’m Harry, I like to get in the gym as much as possible and have a love for sport! I’m a graduate in Sports and Exercise Science and recently got back from a year travelling Australia. You’ll be able to see upstairs behind the bar ready to pull your pints and make your pizzas.
Sarah
Hello, I’m Sarah. I am a qualified florist on the side of working at HSFC. I love our four-legged friends and my dog is my child. I love chatting to all the members and remembering your regular orders! Come and say hello!
Josh
Hi I’m Josh, I love spending my free time kayaking, running and taking part in a good circuit training session. I love a good coffee and I’d love to make you one so come find me behind the bar.
Stan
Hi I’m Stan, I love playing squash, getting in the gym and occasionally dabbling in a little padel! I’m currently in my final year of sixth form and you’ll often find me behind the bar, pulling pints or making pizzas!
Lee
Hi, I’m Lee! I have been a supervisor on the HSFC bar for just over 2 years now. It has been brilliant getting to know everyone! I studied Sports Journalism at Leeds Trinity University, I’m a big football fan, follow Harrogate Town and Leeds United. Anything you need while you’re in and around the club give me a shout and I’ll be happy to help.
